Got A Sweet Tooth?
Monica “Sweetie” Fuller finally comes face to face with Gabriel Windahl, the man with whom she's been safely flirting via telephone, and all hell breaks loose. Already somewhat self-conscious about her voluptuous figure and kinky locks, Sweetie is devastated when Gabriel shows up out of the blue – all the way from Sweden – and appears to like her best friend more than he likes her. However, so thrown is Gabriel by the strength of his attraction to Sweetie that he sends her the wrong signals and creates a huge, confusing mess.
Sweetie is a strong one though. She’s a guardian angel to her best friend Tess, she’s earning a name for herself at the financial firm where she works, and most of the time she loves her luscious curves. She tries to convince herself that she can live without Gabriel and his tendency to try to protect her from things she’s been handling on her own all her life. Then beauty-struck Tess makes yet another bad decision, putting Sweetie’s life and livelihood in danger. Sweetie finds herself leaning on Gabriel and in doing so, she discovers that having someone by her side through thick and thin isn’t so bad, after all.
WHISPER SOMETHING SWEET is by turns a scorching romance and a dramedy. I appreciated Deatri King-Bey’s positive portrayal of voluptuous sistas and the brothas who worship them. I was also pleasantly surprised by the “laugh out loud” moments sprinkled throughout the book. This is definitely one for my “keeper” shelf.
