Wanda Harold fell in love with Edward while they were in college. He was handsome, had the correct background and was just the man for her. They married and had three children, and then Edward begins to stray. Wanda is heartbroken when they separate. She meets Charles Budrow, a bus driver, who is also handsome and very nice. That just won’t do it for Wanda. She needs a bourgeois man who is in the same class she is. Wanda also has a domineering mother; however, if it weren’t for her mother’s money, Wanda would be in big trouble.
Just as Wanda finds she might be interested in Charles, Edward decides he wants to come back to her. What will Edward do to get Wanda back? One thing for sure, it won’t be nice. Meanwhile, Charles goes on with his life, being a youth councilor and a good Christian man who talks to Wanda about her soul. Wanda was raised in an atheist home and she uses wine to drown her sorrows, rather than God and her oldest son is beginning to look to drugs for his relief. Will Charles be able to help her or her children?
THE LAST GOOD MAN by Patrice Franklin is a touching story of failed marriages, Christians who are trying to help and evil people who only want to do harm. It is an interesting story from beginning to end. The characters are well developed and I found myself wanting to scream at some of them as they made dreadful decisions. It is definitely a book well worth reading.
