RAW Rating: 4.5 (out of 5)
The new drug, headcrack, is an up and coming star in the hood. Those that use it are getting a high that is incomparable to anything they know. Those that sell it are seeing an astronomical financial benefit from the huge returns and they are very protective of this newfound windfall. In other words, don’t get in the way of the users or the pushers. But that is exactly what Nefertiti (Neefy) Jones did when she was asked to check on one of Tenora’s students who is suspected of being a user. Neefy’s investigation turns into a full-fledged assault on the Eastside Crew.
There is no one with balls enough to attack the Eastside, except Nefertiti Jones. Manny of the Sangremanos knows this with all his heart and he takes his suspicions to their captain, Esteban. His disappointment is very apparent when Esteban doesn’t act to retaliate against the Southside. So he comes up with a plan to exact revenge on Nefertiti and the Southside Crew as well as solidify his position with the Eastside Crew. Meanwhile, Esteban visits Neefy and delivers a well-placed warning -- the Truce is nearing an end.
Mike Sales (aka M. Torez) does it again with his latest installment, SOUTHSIDE NEFERTITI #3. The action continues to be tense and very addictive. Sales does a very good job of bringing the urban underground scene to life in the comics. He captures the nuances and lingo very well in his characters as they tell the story. The artwork by Randolph Williams is very good and portrays very accurately the action as it happens. Both the artwork and the storyline work in tandem to allow the reader to experience the grittiness of street life when it comes to the dominance of the drug trade.
