The novella CALIENTE by J. M. Jeffries, Monique Lamont, Kelley Nyrae and Simone Harlow features four Latin male characters each paired with African-American females; caliente defines hot!

“Instructing Layla” by Monique Lamont features a dance studio owner who was a former Latin dance competitor.  After an embarrassing accident at a competition, Layla retires until the day she is challenged to return.  Layla loves her peaceful existence, and in order to compete, she must reunite with her former partner, Marcelo, who now lives in Mexico, his home country.  Traveling to Mexico to reunite with her partner, Layla runs into several obstacles.  Returning to the United States with Marcelo in tow, together they pursue their quest for fame and fortune while their hearts do a salsa, tango and bachata of their own.

“Wanting Mia” by Kelley Nyrae highlights attorney Mia and her game of dare with stranger, Antonio.  After graduating from law school, Mia and her friend celebrate with drinks and a game of chance.  Mia propositions Antonio and is promptly turned down. Two months later Antonio returns to Big Bear in search of Mia and the game resumes.

“Julia’s Second Act” by Simone Harlow showcases agent to the stars, Julia. Putting her career in jeopardy by withdrawing from a contract with a spoiled and self-destructive actress, Julia steps out on faith to start her own business as an independent agent and is introduced to Matt Valdez.  He is a “has been” actor determined to reenergize his life and his career as one of Hollywood’s leading actors.  In his quest, he set his sights on Julia.  Will Julia let lust and love rule her own notion of not mixing business with pleasure?

“Partners In Crime” by J.M. Jeffries spotlights imprisoned cat burglar Cleo and CIA agent Vincent.  In exchange for her release from prison, Cleo must assist Vincent in recouping some vital documents.  Neither bargained for a game of cat and mouse, nor a game of chance, but that is exactly what each is gambling with in this story of intrigue and deception.

CALIENTE is filled with four interesting romances, each featuring vivid detail and realistic dialogue.  The plots are a mixture of crime, passion and manipulative behaviors; each told at their own pace from the leisurely to climatic to compelling.
