Different
TRUE TO THE GAME III, the third book of the Teri Woods trilogy, takes you on a hunt through the streets of Philly where the second book left off. Gena awakens and discovers herself injured and in new surroundings. She has much to deal with as she goes into hiding, as she remembers she has lost the love of her life. She's confused, frightened and hurt and makes too many mistakes which put her in grave danger. Meanwhile, a thug with a serious appetite for killing is searching the streets to slaughter and destroy anyone in his path to Gena.
Although the copy reviewed was an advanced reading copy, it was clearly well-written and very descriptive, more so than book one and two, but I felt as if I was reading a different story by a different writer. It is a wonderful thing to see growth in writers; unfortunately, growth hindered the street edge of this series. TRUE TO THE GAME III has lost the street edge that propelled book one to the top of the street fiction field and doesn't seem as "true to the game."
This book focused too much on the crooked cops and not enough on Gena. Gena appeared weak, without any street credibility and I found myself wondering who this book was about and why it was written. Though the book had drama, it was not enough to match the predecessors. Teri Woods is at the top of her game; unfortunately, TRUE TO THE GAME III fell short of what I expected from her.
