The Trophy That Couldn’t Win
Kalil’s story begins when he is released from prison following a drug possession conviction. Passionate about his young daughter and being an integral part of her life, Kalil is determined to lead a straight life with a legitimate job. Kalil soon finds out that his mission will be very difficult to pursue.
With the help of his loyal cousin, Kalil begins to piece his life back together. The most important part of this equation is Jada, Kalil’s young daughter. Due to circumstances surrounding Jada’s home life, Kalil decides to raise her on his own. Unfortunately for Kalil, a 9-to-5 job doesn’t fit into his current situation, and the streets call him back. Kalil involves a notorious kingpin named Hova when he returns to the streets. With Hova’s connections, Kalil obtains the resources to reclaim his name on the streets, but ironic occurrences change Kalil’s plans and he quickly finds himself in an unexpected position.
While involving himself in Jada’s school life, Kalil meets Jada’s dance instructor, London. London is a foreign beauty who is married to an extremely abusive and controlling man. Kalil and London quickly bond, but soon find themselves in grave danger. Kalil, London, and Jada encounter life or death situations, and their time together begins to tick away.
THE TROPHY WIFE starts with a very unique prologue, and the tale takes off from there. Although some of the pertinent background history about the main characters was missing, the story’s plot is clear. Ashley and JaQuavis are two authors known for their captivating stories, and they did not disappoint with this read.
