No one can describe the anticipation of finally meeting your mate.  But imagine being from a society where marriages are arranged and although you know your future husband, he lives in another country.  His purpose is to prepare a home for the two of you. Visualize, finally getting a chance to be with him in this other world with all the hope, love and eagerness you can muster.  Once there, it dawns on you the life you dreamed will never materialize.  Such is the plight of Nma.

In THE PLUNGE: The Fate of a Paragon, Fidelia Agwumezie tells the story of how Nma’s life drastically changes the minute she steps onto U. S. soil.  Nma approaches the life she’s dreamed of living with her beloved Eze with gusto, zeal and hopefulness.   Despite the love Nma has to give and the honor she is bringing to seal their marriage pact, Eze’s response is less than enthusiastic.  Sometimes he ignores her existence in place of another “friend,” or he humiliates her, or he simply beats her senselessly.

THE PLUNGE is one Nigerian woman’s journey into a marriage of hell.  No one could predict the atrocities she would face; however, her story is one of endurance and survival.  Agwumezie gives an astonishing account of abuse suffered at the hands of one’s own kinsmen.  This story relays that physical abuse is a universal crime.   It doesn’t just happen to American women; it can happen to any woman at any time.  As powerful as this story is, it was not without some flaws.  Grammatical and spelling errors plagued the storyline, as did a lack of organization to the flow of the story.  Apart from the editorial issues, Agwumezie has a powerful storytelling ability, which makes THE PLUNGE worthy of consideration.
