Lani comes from a troubled background with a drug-addicted mother who is incarcerated for murder. Terrance has a privileged background. His parents are wealthy and successful and they had plans for him to marry a young lady with a similar background, but Terrance chose Lani. Terrance’s best friend is Kenya whom he regards as his little sister, Lani thinks otherwise because she sees the way Kenya acts and talks around Terrance. Terrance has late night conversations with Kenya because she is easy to talk to; needless to say, he’s not aware that she has deep feelings for him and is waiting for the opportunity to express them.
After Lani and Terrance fight over one of his late night phone tryst with Kenya, Terrance leaves the house and calls Kenya. Leaving her husband Chris and infant son at home, she states she’s leaving in the middle of the night to get formula for the baby although she breastfeeds. Chris is concerned about her quick exit, but it is not until Lani contacts him to say Terrance is missing that he starts to piece items together. What happens next is a chain of events that include lies, betrayal and murder.
THE LOUDEST SILENCE takes place in just 72 hours of two couples’ lives. One selfish act unleashes an inevitable thread that comes undone before the cast of characters. Kai does an excellent job fleshing out the tale with strong character development and depth of emotions. I hated for it to come to an end and what an ending it was.
