It has been said that college can pack on the weight in the first year.  But, the weight gain is the least of what a freshman takes on in that first year.  Being away from home for the first time without parental supervision and making your own decisions leaves a lot of room for miscues.  There are a lot of adjustments to make during the freshman year, both emotionally and physically.  How do you keep it all together and stay in school at the same time?

Jillian Ford is a freshman at State University in Raleigh, North Carolina. Up until this point, her life has been missing some key ingredients, but nevertheless she is in college and prepared do her best.  That is, until the school’s star basketball player, Ahmad Bells, spots her at probate.  Not as sophisticated as some of the other young ladies vying for Ahmad’s attention, she doesn’t really thinks he’s all that interested.  Ahmad , on the other hand, goes after her with a purpose.  Before long they are dating, and Jillian is introduced to a whole lot of college drama.  Some of what she already knows goes out the window.  Their life choices don’t necessarily make for a life filled with the happily ever after.  In fact, they both suffer some huge consequences for college students.

THE FRESHMEN FIFTEEN…And a Whole Lot of Other Stuff They Didn’t Plan For took me way back.  I went back to my first day of college, my first college party,  my first Greek step show, and my first love in college…ok, enough reminiscing.  M. H. Taylor captured the trials and tribulations freshmen can get caught up in at a time when huge life issues should be the least of their worries.  I enjoyed the characters; they were real and truly represented those you may encounter in college.  I even felt like yanking a few ponytails myself.   This story is a good review of how your choices in life can earn you some very unintended consequences.
