Assumptions are like roller coasters - they lead you down The first page of KISSED BY THE DEVIL caught my attention and immersed me in a personal read-a-thon. Author Dashawn Taylor has written a fast-paced and shocking novel filled with endless drama. The novel opens with a violent scene that depicts pain and fear as the lead character is being seriously beaten by her fiancé, Jayson. Tall, gorgeous and successful, Heidi Kachina is engaged to the equally handsome and flourishing Jayson Carter, a floor supervisor at IDT. After meeting, falling in love and dating for seven years, Heidi finds herself dealing with assumptions about her fiancé that lead to devastating consequences, though all things are not as they seem. The story uses flashbacks to help set the tone. After the first scene you quickly find yourself a year forward when Heidi's life takes a dangerous turn. A phone call from her mother Pearl is the backdrop that causes all hell to break loose. Her life is forever changed as she finds herself in a situation that's inescapable. Although Taylor has written a page-turner, there are some small flaws that were hard to ignore. There were many unanswered questions about the mother's boyfriend, Jayson, and other central characters in the story. Also, some whys and whats were left out that would have strengthened the storyline. In addition, there were too many flashbacks by too many characters that had me flipping back to get a better understanding and to diffuse some confusion. However, this book was a compelling, interesting read that was hard to put down. I only hope that the author will address the missing information in a sequel. One thing is certain; I will be the first in line to buy it. A great read!
