In the latest addition to the Quest for the Golden Bowl series, we travel with Barbara Turner to Paradise Island, the home of her deceased grandmother, Dorsey. It was always Dorsey’s plan to return to her homeland but those plans quickly changed when she was swindled out of most of her life savings then found dead in her home.  The police called Dorsey’s death an accident but Barbara knows it was murder and she’s determined to avenge her death.  The swindlers, Elliot Stone and his wife Minerva, move on to their next victim who just so happens to live on Paradise Island.  Once Barbara finds this out, she knows her next move is a trip to the island.  Little does she know, she isn't the only one there because of the Stones.

Paradise Island is a small quiet place with Harper as the most eligible bachelor and sheriff.  He enjoys the peace and quiet of the island and he also enjoys spending time with Barbara.  As their relationship blossoms on many different levels, he can’t get rid of the feeling that she’s holding something back.  When various crimes, mostly involving the Stones, start plaguing the quiet island, he wonders if Barbara is involved.  Will she tell him the reason she’s there?

ISLAND OF DECEIT was an enjoyable yet confusing book for me.   I didn't know this was part of a series, so the extra characters that popped up puzzled me a number of times.  Once I focused on the main story, I enjoyed the storyline which revolved around doing what it takes for family and giving love a chance.  I also enjoyed the suspense because it kept me on my toes from the beginning.
