Rain, a neo-soul spoken word artist, resides in a two-level flat with her siblings, Carmen and Danny. Her relationship with her sister, who is a drug addict, and her brother, who has anger management issues, is strained because they feel she has always been the favorite of their mother and grandmother. Rain suffers from bad dreams and a suppressed memory of the events of her mother’s murder of which she was a witness. As each dream becomes more real, she starts to remember the details of the horrific crime. Her grandmother feels this is therapeutic for her and it will be the key to unlocking the mental trauma Rain has experienced since the murder. However, the painful memory may be too much for Rain to bear.
INSIDE RAIN is a well-crafted novel with a surprising conclusion that I didn't see coming, which is a credit to how well Mensah spun her tale. The character development was multi-layered and I found myself questioning their decisions and actions as the author dealt with mental issues, drug abuse, and abusive behaviors. The novel was plot driven with so much action and activity going on it was never a dull moment. INSIDE RAIN will mesmerize readers and blow their minds.
